ArtTech Saturday!

Posted in and other fun, Art, beer, Music on 29 September 2009 by jason

Last Saturday, after a three month absence, Apollonova returned to the Lockview in Akron for ArtTech.

These people like art.

These people like art.

It was a blast! I was there with my normal posse of the Ballas and Jenny (an honorary Balla), as well as Eric, and Holly, who was celebrating her birthday. If you’ve never been to ArtTech, basically what happens is a DJ spins records while the Apollonova artists paint paintings, which are later raffled off. While the artists paint, you walk up to them, chat them up, and buy them drinks (See, Will? I’m looking out for ya!)

The Lockview makes some of the best grilled cheese sandwiches. This is not an opinion; it is a scientifically proven fact. I sat at the bar with the birthday girl, ate grilled cheese, and drank beer. It was a lot of fun!

After ArtTech, we went to Thursday’s Lounge, where…a lot of weirdness happened. In fact, what happened at Thursday’s should probably stay there. I can say that I was not really a participant in the weirdness; I was an observer. So there’s that.

Anyway, ArtTech was awesome; I’m looking forward to the next one! Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another 3 months!

Just a reminder…

…that I also write on a music blog at …to eleven. I wrote a new post there. If you follow The Most High and Holy via RSS feeds and all that, follow me and Jayson at the new blog, too!

Closing the Coffin on Summer

Posted in Exercise, Holidays on 22 September 2009 by jason

Well, today is the Autumnal Equinox, and for the first time ever, really, I can feel the line that separates Summer from Fall. As you may have noticed, this Summer was not my best, and I think that the last two weeks have left me kind of bitter and sarcastic. But today, I’m done with all that. It’s a new season, and enough things have happened recently to see this as a new beginning.

Yeah, I know it’s kind of ass backwards to look at Autumn as a new beginning, but whatever. It’s Spring in the Southern Hemisphere. So, too my friends who have helped me out in these last few weeks: Thanks. I’m better now. If you guys need anything, just let me know.

So, what am I going to do? Well, I’m cleaning my apartment and throwing a bunch of stuff out. I’m going to start writing again. I just got a weight bench, so when my sprained wrist heals, I’m lifting 3 days a week. I’m running further and faster then I have before.

It’s not a really a reinvention. If anything, I’m just letting myself be more “me.”

Things to do the day after breaking up with your girlfriend.

Decide to stay in bed all day.
Decide to have a Wes Anderson marathon.
Decide to clean your entire apartment.
Decide not to do any of these things.
Answer the phone.
Hang up.
Answer the phone.
Hang up.
Give in to the urge to text your friends to let them know.
Receive encouraging texts back.
Forget to eat.
Call a friend.
Call another friend.
Play guitar.
Get some more encouraging texts.
Remember to eat.
Ride a bike.
Visit parents’ house.
Write a blog post.
(To be continued…)

New Blog!

Posted in inturwebs, Music on 2 September 2009 by jason

Hey all,

I know I haven’t been on here lately, but I just wanted to lat you all know that I am working on another blog with my friend Jayson. It’s called “…to eleven,” and it’s a music blog. Right now, Jayson’s the only one who’s written for it…I need more sleep before i’m prepared to drop some wisdom. Anyway, go check it out, link to it, worship it.

My 1st Kickball Game

A single

A single

On Monday, I had my first kickball game as a member of the Blue Ballas, and it was awesome. I managed to kick a single that got me on 1st and Beth Yoder-Balla on second, and I caught what was the most entertainning out of the game (I lost control of the ball 3 timed before finally catching it…it looked like I was juggling!)

That one's out of there!

That one's out of there!

It’s weird…I’m 32 years old, and this game was the first time I’ve ever played any team sport. I think I did alright for my first time, and our team won, 16-5! Our team did well, and everyone, even those of us who were a little nervous about this whole thing, gave our all! No one sucked!

Beth's crossing home plate, and I'm on my way there!

Anyway, the game was more fun than I could imagine, and I’m looking forward to next week’s game!
