What’s going on with me? (The good news)

Posted in Karaoke, Movember, NaNoWriMo on 1 December 2009 by jason

As I said in the last post, some really good things happened this month. Great things. Awesome things.

First of all, I completed NaNoWriMo! If you’ve ever done NaNoWriMo, you know what a challenge it is, and if you’ve ever completed it, you know how good it feels. This year was easier than last year, and I think that was because my coworkers (Yvonne, Jenny, Jessica) were doing it too! Good job, guys, whatever your final word count was!

Secondly, my moustache (which is now gone!) earned $57 for prostate and testicular cancer research through Movember. I think the site is still up if you want to donate! This was a lot of fun, so I’ll probably do it again next year.

Another cool thing this month was the karaoke contest at Quaker Steak and Lube. I made it through round 1, was booted out at round 2, but because not enough winners showed up for round 3, I was put in as a “wild card.” I survived this round with my rendition of “War Pigs”, and so this week, I’m in round 4! Wish me luck!

The last piece of good news I have is, well…

Meet Yvonne:

We’ve been dating and talking on the phone and such, but this Sunday, we decided that what we had was “a relationship.” Then we realized that that would always put our anniversary in NaNoWriMo and Movember (plus, Nov. 29 just seems like a hard date to remember), so we’re calling today, Dec. 1st, our day. Because we’re cool like that and can just arbitrarily decide when our aniversary is.

Anyway, she’s my girlfriend, officially. I’m her boyfriend.

So, as you can see by these two posts, I had an eventful month! It was a very good month, even with the stuff from the last post trying to mess everything up!

NaNoWriMo day 30, Movember day 30.

Posted in Movember, NaNoWriMo, Writing on 30 November 2009 by jason

Well, today is the last day for a couple things here.

First of all, today is the final day for NoNoWriMo. I actually finished on Friday, so today is just a relaxing day watching other people cross the finish line. I had a lot of fun with it this year, and I enjoyed my story more than I did last year’s NaNo. I’d like to thank Yvonne for helping me stay motivated!

Also, today is THE LAST DAY TO DONATE TO MOVEMBER. The money goes to fight prostate and testicular cancer. That means that tomorrow, I shave this stupid moustache off.

The stupid moustache.

Here’s a random NaNoWriMo excerpt for you! Continue reading

Movember day 24, Nanowrimo day 23

Posted in Movember, NaNoWriMo, Writing on 24 November 2009 by jason

Hey, all.

It’s been a while. How’s it going?

I’ll make this brief. There’s only a week left to donate to Movember. My moustache is a weapon against prostate and testicular cancer.

Here’s what it looks like:

I grow facial hair like a 14-year-old, AND now I have acne.

Also, I’ve gotten a little behind on my writing. i missed a few days, and now I’m playing catch up. I CAN STILL FINISH IT ON TIME. And so can you, Yvonne. Jessica, I thik you’re out of luck.

Here’s a little bit of what I’ve done, sans proofreading or editing Continue reading

NaNoWriMo day 11, Movember day 11

Posted in Movember, NaNoWriMo, Writing on 12 November 2009 by jason

Whew! This week has been a busy one. I was busy at work, busy cleaning my apartment, busy writing my NaNoWriMo novel, busy writing for this music blog, and busy growing a damn mustache!

I won’t talk about work here, and you don’t want to know about my apartment, but I will remind you that I’m growing a mustache for Movember, an event in which I grow a mustache and YOU DONATE MONEY TO FIGHT TESTICULAR AND PROSTATE CANCER. This is very important to me because I actually have a prostate and at least two testicles. Continue reading

Posted in Movember, NaNoWriMo on 3 November 2009 by jason

Ok, so I’ve been growing my upper lip hair for MOVEMBER, the month-long, mustache-growing evemt to raise money for Prostate Cancer awareness. Please click on the link above and donate to sponsor my ‘stache. I’d like to thank my friend Yvonne for getting the donation ball rolling!

Here is what I look like, 3 days in…

Three days of 'stache growing

It will look more ridiculous in about a week, so I need your sponsorship to convince me it’s worth it!

Ok, now that that’s out of the way, I’m also doing NaNoWriMo. I’m a little over 4000 words in, and so far it’s ok. Here’s a short excerpt from yesterday:

Here’s the set-up..a secret agent woman (Melissa Guice) is talking to her surperior (Commander Jacobs).

“Yes, yes, Guice. What do you know of Project Elder?”

Melissa blinked at Jacobs, taken aback. “Um…I know that it’s a myth. A story told to young recruits to send them on a snipe hunt. A test to see how much the young blood are willing to suspend their disbelief.”

Jacobs took the cigar out of his mouth slowly, in a way that Melissa could only imagine was for dramatic purposes. “What if I told you that it was real, and that the worst case scenario was unfolding this very moment?” Continue reading

November stuff…

Posted in Movember, NaNoWriMo on 15 October 2009 by jason

I haven’t even gotten my Halloween costume together, but I’ve already got my November planned out.

First of all, I’m doing NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, again. If you don’t know what this is, it’s a month-long event where the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I wrote a zombie novel last year, and though it sucks so bad I haven’t let anyone see it, it was still a very confidence-inspiring experience. Even if you are busy, I encourage you all to sign up and participate.

Secondly, I’m taking donations for Movember, another month-long event. According to their web site, “Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues – specifically prostate and testicular cancer.” So, I’ll be growing a moustache, and others will be donating (hopefully) in order to support cancer research. The funny thing is that I can’t grow facial hair very well, so I’m going to look like shit all November. I’ll post updates for all to see and laugh at.

If you want to donate (you know you do!), the URL to visit is http://us.movember.com/mospace/49545.

So, that’s my November, or my Movember, or my NaNoWriMo.
