Again with the not posting!

Heh. I keep saying I’m returning to this blog, but it doesn’t seem to happen. I have been busy, though. I’ve been writing a ton (literally…I weighed it) of content for To Eleven, and it seems I got a freelance gig! I won’t go into the details, but a company is redesigning their website, and I’m writing the content for it! So I’m back to being a working writing, as well as a writing tutor.

Besides that? Well, last weekend, I drove to Pittsburgh by myself (which, if you know how easily I get lost, you know what a feat that was!) to see one of my favorite bands, Balthrop, Alabama play. It was a great show, and I got to see my old high school friend Chris, who’s in the band. After the show, so that I wouldn’t have to make the 2 1/2 hour drive so late, the band let me crash with them.

That’s about it, really. Well, that and lots of karaoke! In fact, this weekend, my friend James came out to do some karaoke, as well as another high school friend, Marjorie, and her husband, Jason. It was a great time…if anyone ever wants to come out and try it, let me know. I’ll tell you when we’re doing it again!

Well, I’m off to write for this project. I’ll be on here more often, I SWEAR! (Yeah, right.)

NaNoWriMo day 3

Posted in Music, NaNoWriMo on 4 November 2009 by jason

Well, today’s the fourth day of NaNoWriMo, and we’ve got a health competition here at work, with me, Yvonne, Jessica, Jenny, and Kelly K. all participating! Before I give a brief excerpt of what I wrote on day 3, I figured I could give some advice. If you’re going to be writing, you need music.

No one can tall you what kind of music to listen to. Except me. I can. You should listen to Instrumental Surf Rock.

Here’s my soundtrack thus far:

jaynova’s surf-a-paluau station on Pandora.
Shots in the Dark-various artists (A Henry Mancini surf tribute!)
Ventures Play Telstar, The Lonely Bull And Others/The Ventures in Space-The Ventures (2 albums on 1 CD!)
Mr. Eliminator-Dick Dale and his Del-Tones (With too many vocal tracks.)
Non-surf music: Secret Adventure-Constant Comment.

So go listen to that music, NaNos!

Ok, here’s a short excerpt from yesterday’s writing. The main character is my John Constantine rip-off. Sue me.

Joe 1

“Joe Milton!?! What the hell happened to you?!?”

Joe looked up from the bar where he was nursing a Guinness to see his friend Nathanstaring at him, wide eyed and terrified.

Nathan continued, “You look like you’ve been through a wood chipper!” Continue reading

ArtTech Saturday!

Posted in and other fun, Art, beer, Music on 29 September 2009 by jason

Last Saturday, after a three month absence, Apollonova returned to the Lockview in Akron for ArtTech.

These people like art.

These people like art.

It was a blast! I was there with my normal posse of the Ballas and Jenny (an honorary Balla), as well as Eric, and Holly, who was celebrating her birthday. If you’ve never been to ArtTech, basically what happens is a DJ spins records while the Apollonova artists paint paintings, which are later raffled off. While the artists paint, you walk up to them, chat them up, and buy them drinks (See, Will? I’m looking out for ya!)

The Lockview makes some of the best grilled cheese sandwiches. This is not an opinion; it is a scientifically proven fact. I sat at the bar with the birthday girl, ate grilled cheese, and drank beer. It was a lot of fun!

Me and Miss Holly, the birthday girl.

After ArtTech, we went to Thursday’s Lounge, where…a lot of weirdness happened. In fact, what happened at Thursday’s should probably stay there. I can say that I was not really a participant in the weirdness; I was an observer. So there’s that.

Anyway, ArtTech was awesome; I’m looking forward to the next one! Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another 3 months!

…to eleven.

New Blog!

Posted in inturwebs, Music on 2 September 2009 by jason

Hey all,

I know I haven’t been on here lately, but I just wanted to lat you all know that I am working on another blog with my friend Jayson. It’s called “…to eleven,” and it’s a music blog. Right now, Jayson’s the only one who’s written for it…I need more sleep before i’m prepared to drop some wisdom. Anyway, go check it out, link to it, worship it.

Well…(Week wrap-up)

…I got my laptop fixed, but I lost access to the internet at the same time (no comments from the peanut gallery), so I haven’t been on like I wanted to be. Also, my phone’s been having problems, so I’m basically cut off from the outside world when I’m at home. It’s kind of weird, actually. So right now, the only way to get a hold of me is to come to my place and knock on my window.

Besides that, though, this week has been OK. I’ve been getting to work early to go to so I can watch old episodes of The Prisoner. I never got around to seeing that show, so I’m happy to get the chance. Good stuff, that. The first week at work has been relatively slow, bit I know it’s about to get extremely busy.

I’ve also decided that if I ever find the Weezer song “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn),” I am singing it, no matter how poorly I actually know the song. Here’s the video:

Oh, yeah…that’s happening.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart-“Young Adult Friction”

A great song about having sex in a library. These guys really wish they were Belle and Sebastian, but I won’t hold it against them.
