You’re kidding me, right?

When I go to work, it’s like I’m camping. No, I don’t mean that I sit out and roast vegetarian hot dogs over an open flame; I mean that I carry so much crap. I have my bag with my laptop, books, paperwork, and whatnot, a second bag with my workout gear, a third for my lunch, and I’m usually carrying a coffee around.

When I get off work, sometimes I buy groceries. This means that my trip back to my apartment is harder than the trip to work. Because of this, I sometimes leave my stuff in the car to get later.

So, last night, I went out at about 1 AM to take out some trash and get my stuff from my car. On my way to my car from the dumpster, I was surprised by a stray cat. “Woah! Hello, little kitty,” I said. It just stared at me. Then, a second cat appeared, ran towards me, and stopped by the other cat. This was a little creepy. “Er…hi?” I whimpered, backing towards my apartment. Then, a third cat, a kitten, appeared. The cats just stared at me with sickly glowing yellow eyes. My parking lot turned into Village of That Darned Cat! Giving up on making it to my car, I headed to the apartment, followed the whole way by these creepy, creepy cats.

This morning, I awoke to find that overnight, thieves broke into my car and stole my stereo (technically my brother’s stereo), and I don’t know what else. They ransacked my car, and didn’t have the decency to close my door afterwards, so it rained in my car all night.

(My Mountain Goats CD, Heretic Pride, was in the stereo. I don’t illegally download music, but I also refuse to pay twice for a CD, so I guess I’ll just never have that one again.)

Anyway, it’s obvious that these cats were working with the thieves in some sinister network of orphan animals and cutpurses.

The fix is in?

Why were the polls that predicted an Obama win (and a Clinton loss) in New Hampshire so wrong?

Was the discrepancy because, at the voting booths, because Clinton’s name has an alphabetical advantage?

Was the difference because racist voters lied about who they voted for?

Or maybe it was that almost crying in public “humanized” her in the eyes of the voters.

Or maybe, the whole thing was rigged.

The last possibility is being investigated by Dennis Kucinich; he is working on demanding a recount. As he says in the below audio clips, he is not neccessarily trying to prove that there was machine rigging; he just wants the American people to know if they can trust the voting process.

Kucinich is looking for donations to help pay for the New Hampshire recount. Even if you don’t live in New Hampshire, this is important…many other states use these voting machines, and if this vote was indeed rigged, it could happen to your state too. Go to the Kucinich website and give him your support in this, even if you are not a Kucinich supporter.

EDIT: (It has come to my attention (thanks, dash!) that the link to contribute to the cost of the recount and Dennis’ campaign contribution link are one and the same. That’s a little dissapointing, but I’ll give dennis the benefit of the doubt this time. Anyway, if his campaign does post a link for just the recount, I’ll post it. Until then, if you want to contribute to the recount, sit tight.)

My Biweekly Obsession

Posted in Radio on 9 October 2007 by jason

It seems that every 2 weeks or so, I become obsessed with something. It might be a movie I watched or a video game I played, or just something I saw on TV.

This weekend, on the way to Cedar Point, I heard a story on NPR about Laika, the Cosmonaut dog. I don’t know if it was the way the narrator told the story or just the idea of this dog goiing into space, but I can’t stop thinking about the poor thing.

So now, I’m obsessed with a dog who died almost 50 years ago. What the hell?

There’s no reason to do this song here.

The set-up: Right before Elvis Costello and the Attractions were to go on the Saturday Night Live stage, they were told by Lorne Michaels that the song “Radio, Radio” was verboten. NBC was caving to the pressures of the shows sponsors, it seems. Elvis et al. walk out to the stage, and this happens, live, for all to see:

Look at the anger in Elvis’ face and gestures. Rumor has it that Lorne Michaels came down to the stage and stood there, flipping Costello the bird during the song. Afterwords, he told the Attractions that they would not be invited back. Which, of course, is why this performance is totally rad:

Class.

Not Much….You?

Today, the otter I went to see Michael Feldman’s Whatd’ya Know? from the Palace Theater in my hometown of Canton, Ohio. It was great…the show is great on the radio, but seeing it was a completely different experience. Feldman does things like screwing with the Announcer’s mic while he’s trying to read that you don’t get if you are only listening to the show.

If you did listen to it today, you know that he didn’t pick me for any of the audience questions (before the show, everyone writes a question he or she wants answered; my question was “why does the Pro Football Hall of Fame look like a giant orange juice squeezer?”), but that’s Ok…I got his autograph after the show (on the bobblehead that comes with the “Whatdy’a Know?” trivia game).

Oh, anyone who was listening that is not from Canton should know that there is more than just football (I hate the sport myself!). We obviously have a symphony orchestra, an art museum, and several colleges (Stark State, Kent State-Stark Campus, Walsh, and Malone).

But I digress. The show was great, and if Feldman comes to your town, go see him!

Whatd’ya Know?

Tomorrow (that’s Saturday), Michael Feldman’s Whatd’ya Know? airs from my hometown of Canton, Ohio. The otter and I will be there, which means that there is a SLIM chance I may be on the radio.
GO HERE to see when it will play in your neck of the woods.

I post sometime tomorrow to tell you all how it went!
