Back?

I’ve been terrible at updating this blog, mostly because I’ve been spending my writing time with To Eleven. It’s the music blog, but even if you don’t like my kind of music, it’s entertaining enough. For instance, today, I’ve got a mock-fanfiction featuring Tegan and Sara teaming up with Kaki King and John Darnielle (of the Mountain Goats) to fight crime. Jayson said that it was the most disturbing thing I’ve ever written, so…go me?

Also, I’m terrible at self-promotion, but the Canton Film Fest is going on right now. This is of interest to you because I wrote most of the promotional stuff for it, including the program. I’ll be there tomorrow night to check out the horror movies, so if you see a guy who looks completely awesome, it’s probably me.

Over at Ript Apparel, they have another t-shirt that I helped design with Kari Fry, who did most of the work (READ: All of the work). ! This one is a mash-up of Serenity and The Breakfast Club! It’s available today, May 2, 2011, only, and for only $10!

Here’s what the design looks like:

Go buy it!!!

A friend sent me a link of io9’s “Coolest Doctor Who T-Shirts,” and the one I helped design made this list! The artist, Kari Fry, got credit for that one on the site, but as she did 99% or the work, that’s cool.

Here’s the design!

What I’m Working on

Star Wars. Doctor Who. Two great tastes that taste great together.

Hey all. Just a quick update here. I’ve been coming up with ideas for my sister-in-law, Kari Fry, to illustrate. One of these ideas, which is a mash-up of Star Wars and Doctor Who, is up on Tee Fury Today, March 5, 2011. So go buy it. Today. Because it won’t be there tomorrow.

HERE IS THE LINK.

What I’m working on

First off, I finally got my computer on the internet, so I hope to post even more than I have been. I say that a lot, though, so we’ll see.

However, I have been working on a few things:

First off, I wrote the text to this Android and iPhone (and iPad, too) app. It’s called Monsters and Magical Creatures Guide for Kids or Monsters and Creatures for Kids, depending on the version. My brother, Ryan Novak, wrote the code for it, and my sister-in-law, Kari Fry, illustrated it! Anyway, it’s cheap, it’s fun, and you know you want it!

Also, I’ve been writing press releases and whatnot for The Canton Film Fest 2011. In fact, on that March 5th post, that’s my copy, along with the poster, designed by Jayson Shenk.

I’ll have more on the Canton Film Fest 2011, as well as a few other things with my brother and his wife, soon!

What I’m working on…

I’ve got nothing I’m professionally working on in the moment, but in my spare time, I’ve started to write a sword and sorcery story. This is the rough-rough draft of what I wrote last night, though I’ve already changed a lot of stuff so that we don’t get to the action so fast, and I’ve changed the motivation of the character.

The concept of this is “Conan the Barbarian with Dinosaurs.”

The first sun, Rasia as the people of the North call it, the morning star, was lying low on the horizon, far across the vast, shapeless desert. The evening sun, Marta, hung high, beating down on the cracked, desiccated earth. Here and there, large rocks, the size of houses, dotted the landscape but promised no shade, no escape from the evening sun’s cruelty. All seemed lifeless, for what life could possibly survive under the scrutiny of the twin suns, godlike in their presence, demonic in their power? Continue reading

What I’ve been up to…

This is old news, though I never mentioned it on this blog, but I helped write The Silvervine Core Rulebook and Cyrus Worldbook. It’s a fantasy/steampunk-themed role-playing game, and I worked on the Worldbook section. So far, it’s been a pretty successful thing, selling out of all the physical copies and doing quite well as a PDF. It’s a good game, too. I had nothing to do with any of the game-mechanic stuff, but I am currently GMing it with a group, and we all seem to be having fun. So if you like Role-playing games, or if you just collect the work of J. Robert Novak, make sure you get this!
